ashley scholarship winnerAnderson Cummings is proud to award the 2016 Texas Scholarship of Academic Excellence to Ashley Potter, a senior at New Caney High School.

Potter is ranked third in her graduating class with a 3.89 grade point average and is also currently enrolled at Lone Star College. She was included in Lone Star’s President’s Honor List in 2015 and 2016 and is a member of the college’s honor society, Phi Theta Kappa.

This adds to a long list of accomplishments Potter garnered throughout her time at New Caney High School, where she won the New Caney High School Excellence Award, was elected to the National Honor Society, served as Student Council secretary and won the Outstanding Student Leadership Award in French I.

Potter is the co-captain of the school’s varsity soccer team. She made the Academic All District team for three years, made First Team All-District twice, was named Varsity Soccer MVP in 2014 and 2015, and was All District Goalie for the 2014-2015 school year.

Potter has also volunteered with several organizations, including Texas Rush Soccer Club, Steps for Vets, Kingwood Medical Center and the Humble Chamber of Commerce.

She has been accepted to the Texas A&M Mays School of Business and plans to apply to the Texas A&M medical school in 2021.

Her goal is to be a critical care physician and volunteer for Doctors Without Borders, after which she plans to pursue a law degree.

Potter was one of many accomplished applicants for the 2016 Texas Scholarship of Academic Excellence. Each applicant submitted a letter of recommendation and an essay explaining how they decided on their major.

In her essay, Potter described her experiences visiting her cousin with cystic fibrosis at the Texas Children’s Hospital. When her cousin passed away at 12 years old, she became determined to make a difference in the world and decided to become a doctor and eventually a lawyer.

The Fort Worth injury lawyers and staff at Anderson Cummings are honored to provide this scholarship to local students to help them achieve their academic goals.
