2020 Texas Scholarship of Academic Excellence Winner: Linda Tho Lam

linda lamThe Law offices of Anderson & Cummings is proud to announce that Linda Tho Lam has been selected to receive our 2020 Texas Scholarship of Academic Excellence.

The Texas Scholarship of Academic Excellence is for students who are currently enrolled full-time at a Texas college or university.

To win this award, students must write an essay and have shown exceptional leadership and ethical awareness on campus or in the local community. Winners are awarded a one-time scholarship of $1,500.

Linda Tho Lam will be attending her first semester at the University of Texas at Austin after posting a 4.0 GPA at Lawrence D. Bell High School.

Linda was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at the age of three, which is a condition that restricts the thyroid from producing enough hormones that are critical to a person’s health.

Besides being an excellent student, Linda has been able to balance violin lessons, marching band rehearsals, debating sessions, community service and providing tutoring.

She helped raise over $500 and worked to increase mental health awareness for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Fort Worth. She is also helping to raise funds for over 2,000 children who have been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Linda has chosen to pursue a career in medicine. Since the beginning of 2019, she has been shadowing her doctor at the Fort Worth Cook Children’s Medical Center, which has inspired her to learn more about medicine.

With this scholarship, Linda hopes to develop her scientific knowledge to help underprivileged communities and inspire youths to see the importance of helping others to heal and live a healthy lifestyle.

aynika clevelandThis year’s runner up was Aynika Cleveland from Central High School in Keller, TX. Aynika was able to maintain a 3.8 GPA and plans to enroll in the Tarrant County College Professional Pilot Program where she hopes to learn more about the aviation industry and one day become an airline pilot. Ever since she was a child, she dreamed of working in the aviation industry.

Although Aynika realizes that less than five percent of the pilots in the industry are female, she is determined to make a positive impact on the industry.

She believes being involved with Women in Aviation will help encourage other girls to become pilots. Aynika is also a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and Women in Aviation and has taken several discovery flights.

Her ultimate goal is to become an international flight captain for American Airlines.

Congratulations from the team at Anderson & Cummings!
