Dog Attacks 13-Year-Old Boy in East Dallas

pit bullA 13-year-old boy was the victim of a Memorial Day dog attack at an East Dallas apartment complex.

The boy said the dog attack was unprovoked and that he was simply playing hide and seek outside with a friend. Upon realizing the animal was behind him, he ran away due to his fear of dogs. The dog bit the boy, knocking him to the ground, where he tried to push the dog away, but the animal overpowered him.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., police responded to the area, finding the boy pinned to the doorway of an apartment by a white bull terrier. Despite neighbors’ attempts to separate the boy and the dog, the dog continued to bite at the boy’s legs.

Officers had to use a Taser to break up the attack. The dog died during the incident. The boy was transported to Children’s Medical Center for treatment of severe leg wounds. He is currently restricted to lying in bed, recovering from his wounds, because the pain has made it unbearable to walk.

Police found the dog’s owner through the animal’s microchip. A neighboring resident who owned the dog had left the animal with her brother, as she was out of town. Allegedly, the dog had escaped the yard. The brother was charged with having a loose dog and additional charges may be filed pending an investigation.

The attack occurred at nearly the same time as a vigil held for the victim of a deadly dog attack in early May. The 52-year-old woman died from injuries after being mauled by multiple dogs in south Dallas.
