Fort Worth High School Student Killed In Wreck

police lightsLocal authorities have released details on a fatal, three-vehicle accident that took place in Fort Worth on Thursday afternoon.

According to the report, the collision took place on Highway 377 in Benbrook near the 6000 block and involved 17-year-old Esperanza Contreras, a student at nearby Fort Worth Western Hills High School.

While alcohol is not believed to be a factor, Esperanza was a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in the collision which police believe may have been attributed to speed and street racing.

In a statement from the deceased’s mother:

“She was ready to start her life and to be an adult and start taking care of herself and it’s just hard because right when she was fixing to get ready to be able to do that it was taken away.

Students from the school held a vigil after the event while three other people involved in the collision were taken to local hospitals for treatment. One of the injured remains in a critical condition.

The investigation into the crash continues.
