Man Crashes McLaren P1 in Dallas

broken car windowCar enthusiasts across the country are lamenting the case of a 27-year-old driver who purchased an extremely rare vehicle only to crash it in Dallas not even a day later.

The McLaren P1, of which only 375 have been made, was cruising through Dallas with two people inside. At approximately 8 a.m. the morning of Nov. 25, the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a guardrail, injuring his 24-year-old passenger. Investigators say a puddle in the road may have contributed, but it’s not out of the question to assume the P1 was traveling at a high rate of speed.

The driver did not sustain injuries, but the P1 hyper-car was totaled.

The collision is noted as the first McLaren crash in the United States. With the capability of hitting 60 mph in less than three seconds, the P1 is a dangerous street-legal automobile in the hands of an inexperienced driver. Its no surprise that this accident occurred903 horsepower would be difficult for anyone to control.

The main reason this story has become a sensation has more to do with the P1s price tag than the outcome of the accident; at $1.2 million, there’s no irony lost on the fact that the owner drove a collectors item into the ground in less than 24 hours after its purchase.

Similarly, if you are borrowing a car from a friend or family member, make sure you take a short test drive to get a feel for the brakes, acceleration, where important signals are and more.
