Share the Road: Look Twice for Motorcycles the campaign is being launched by The Texas Department of Transportation this month as National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month kicks into high gear.
The effort encourages drivers to learn how to safety interact with motorcyclists by using extra caution since they are more difficult to see and less protected.
When sharing the road, TxDOT encourages drivers to check their mirrors, leave extra room between vehicles and use turn signals to help prevent crashes and save lives.
Authorities also have the following safety tips for both riders and motorcyclists:
- Before each ride, inspect your bike
- To increase visibility, wear bright clothing
- Plan your route in advance and let someone know where you are going
- Wear appropriate gear and helmets
- Drive sober
Motorcyclists are often unfairly blamed for causing accidents, however, it is often another drivers negligent actions that actually led to the collision. Many drivers fail to check for motorcycles, which can lead to a blind spot accident or inadvertently cutting them off.
Since most motorcycle accidents result in serious injuries, it is important to speak with an attorney as soon as possible to protect your best interests. Insurance companies want you to believe they’re on your side, however, when you have been injured in an auto accident they may not provide enough compensation to help you get your life back on track.
