One person was killed and seventeen others were injured in a bus accident early Sunday morning on Dec. 20 on Interstate 30 in Arlington, Texas.
According to authorities, a Greyhound bus traveling from Dallas to Amarillo carrying 40 passengers and a driver crashed into a disabled SUV on I-30 between Cooper and Collins.
A woman in the SUV died at the scene and a man was taken to the hospital by helicopter with serious injuries. It was not clear which one was the driver of the vehicle. Sixteen bus passengers also suffered minor injuries, according to a Greyhound spokeswoman.
Around 5:30 a.m., Arlington police received a call about an SUV that was swerving and exhibiting erratic behavior while traveling westbound on I-30. The vehicle then struck a concrete barrier between the HOV lane and other travel lanes before becoming disabled in the interstate’s left travel lane.
While officers were on their way to investigate the incident, a second caller reported that a Greyhound bus traveling westbound on I-30 had struck the disabled vehicle.
Westbound lanes of the highway were shut down for several hours as authorities investigated the accident.
Later reports revealed that the driver of the bus will not face charges. Police are still waiting for a toxicology report to determine if impairment may have been a factor in the accident.
