Call Us Child in Critical Condition after Being Hit by Pickup Truck

A nine-year-old boy is in critical condition after being hit by a truck on Huddleston Street around 7:30 p.m on Monday night. The truck driver was allegedly intoxicated.
On the 5600 block of Huddleston Street, the boy was riding a yellow bike when he was hit near the White Creek Manufactured Housing Community on Bonanza Drive. According to police, the driver hit another vehicle before coming to a complete stop after the bicycle accident. The 77-year-old driver was arrested and charged with intoxication and assault.
The boy was taken to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth via helicopter. He remains in critical condition.
Less than one day prior, a repeat DWI offender in Arlington damaged several vehicles and one neighbors home. The driver, a 33-year-old man, was previously charged in 2009 for DWI with a blood alcohol level over .15. He was also arrested for DWI in Dallas County last October.
Another local man last Wednesday was sentenced to life in prison following his tenth DWI offense.
Though the number of DUI accidents in Texas decreased between 2013 and 2014, many victims still suffer injuries as a result of these reckless drivers. Each day, almost 30 people die as a result of an impaired driver. Children under 14 account for 17 percent of all alcohol-related fatalities.
