One person was killed and several were injured Thursday, when a bridge currently under construction collapsed onto Interstate-35 in Salado, Texas.
Investigators say 32-year-old Brandon Davis of Arlington, Texas died in the collapse. At least three other people were taken to area hospitals, but the extent of their injuries remains unknown at this time.
Investigators say the semi-truck that caused the fatal bridge crash measures about a foot taller than the posted clearance.
The Texas Department of Transportation reports that several beams fell onto the roadway when the oversized tractor-trailer hit one of the bridge supports.
According to authorities with the Bell County Sheriffs office at least two other rigs and two pickup trucks were also involved in the wreck.
The collapse shut down a section of the north-south highway about 40 miles north of Austin. The interstate, which serves as a primary north-south artery through Texas, was closed for nearly 18 hours. However, the interstate reopened early Friday, according to transportation officials. Officials say the investigation is ongoing.
