In League City, a short-lived police chase resulted in the deaths of three members of a Texas family, their passenger, the driver that hit them and his passenger.
Forty-one-year-old Rafael Guerrero, his wife, 36-year-old Alejandra Guerrero and one of their young sons were driving eastbound on FM 646 when their Honda Accord was struck by a Dodge Durango traveling approximately 100 miles per hour.
The driver of the Durango was 23-year-old Juan Garcia Ahuezoteco, who was being pursued by police on suspicion of drunken driving. Ahuezoteco and his passenger Alejandro Molina died in the car crash.
The Guerreros two surviving sons, 19-year-old Sebastian Yanez and 16-year-old Daniel Guerrero, are left to grieve the loss of three immediate family members and their mothers brother, 25-year-old Gilberto Ortega, who was a passenger in the Honda Accord.
According to reports, police attempted to stop Ahuezoteco at approximately 8:20 p.m. because the Durango did not have its headlights on and was swerving. The drive gave chase, speeding excessively almost immediately. Ahuezoteco struck one vehicle in the intersection of Deats and Ohio Avenue, ripping off its bumper but resulting in no injuries, and continued traveling northbound. Finally, Ahuezoteco struck the Guerreros Honda Accord.
Officers with the League City Police noted that the chase lasted less than two minutes. An investigation into the accident is ongoing to ensure that police were following department procedures.
The injury attorneys at Anderson & Cummings hope the best for the surviving family members, and extend our deepest condolences to the two young sons of the Guerrero family.
