The identities of two accident victims who were killed in a Tarrant County truck accident on Interstate 20 Wednesday have been released by authorities.
The Midland Police Department identified Manuel Chavez, 50, of Grand Prairie as the passenger in a pickup truck driven by Pedro Lara, 41, of Fort Worth, who was also killed in the collision.
The accident took place on I-20 near the off-ramp for Cotton Flat Road when a commercial vehicle driven by Odessa man Antonio Zapata, Jr., 29. At approximately 3:30 p.m., officials say Zapata slammed into the mens F-150 pickup at a high rate of speed while the pickup was stopped in congested traffic.
Sara Bustilloz, spokesperson for the city of Midland, said that the two men were confirmed dead at the scene of the accident.
Charges against Zapata are pending contingent upon the results of Midland Police Departments investigation.
The Midland Reporter-Telegram reports that these tragic deaths mark the 38th and 39th on record for Midland County this year.
