A violent crash in Hill County over the weekend claimed the lives of a father and his 3-year-old daughter. The mother of the family, who was driving, was taken by helicopter to Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco. A 6-year-old daughter in the back seat was taken to Cook Children’s Hospital in critical condition.
Authorities say the accident happened shortly before 8:00 p.m. Sunday night, near the intersection of Highway 22 and FM 309, two miles west of the city. Police say it appears the family’s car slowed down and a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban slammed into the back of it. Texas DPS troopers say the 28-year-old driver of the Suburban failed to push her brakes. She was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to fully recover.
There is no official word on any possible charges, and officials say there is no sign that alcohol played a factor in the crash.
In any type of car accident someone can sustain a serious injury that changes his or her life forever. Having your brakes fail while driving can be a terrifying experience. However, if it happens to you remember, a clear head is your best ally behind the wheel.
