Thanksgiving Day travel can be dangerous as well as stressful. Through an analysis of travel data, Google has compiled a list of cities with the worst traffic during Thanksgiving week. Three Texas cities made the list.
The study analyzed data from Thanksgiving week in 2014 and included 21 cities. Dallas has the fifth worst Thanksgiving holiday traffic in the nation. Houston and Austin ranked eighth and ninth respectively. The top three worst places to be on the highway during the Thanksgiving holiday were Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and San Francisco.
Google data suggests that most traffic occurs on the Wednesday afternoon before Thanksgiving. Travelers typically experience the most congestion between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday also has a lot of road congestion as most people will start heading home then.
Instead of Saturday, Google suggests that travelers return on Sunday since Saturdays traffic may be up to 40 percent heavier than Sundays.

Also, pay attention to the weather. Icy roads, snow and rain can cause dangerous road conditions. It is imperative to remain aware of your surroundings at all times.
