Authorities from the Arlington Police Department have released initial details on an investigation into a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred on Friday evening.
While the identity of the deceased has yet to be released, according to sources close to the scene it’s believed that 20-year-old Kelly Walters is the victim of this tragic incident.
Walters, a junior studying psychology and political science at the University of Texas-Arlington, is believed to have been hit in the crosswalk at the intersection of Burney Road and Green Oaks Boulevard while walking home from a relaxing stroll.
In a statement from Walters’ mother, Ms. Ginna Walters says:
“I believe the officers knocked on the door at 1:45 a.m…. They let us know what had happened. They showed us photos of her cell phone and of a ring that she had that she always wore.
While Police are still investigating the incident and have asked any witnesses to come forward with any information, they have also expressed interest in locating a dark-colored, older model SUV that may have damage to the front of the vehicle.
This is the latest incident in a string of pedestrian accident fatalities in the region that has brought pedestrian safety to the front of the community with many calling for solutions to help increase pedestrian safety.
